Apple wants Epic Games to pay $73 million

In a landmark decision, Apple has been forced to bend the rules. The DMA has just bagged its first major victory, in which the European Commission inquired about the ban of Epic Games Store, and following that inquiry, a decision was made. The latest decision sees Apple notifying the European Commission, as well as Epic Games, that it will go ahead and "relent and restore" the access to bring Fortnite back, as well as launch the Epic Games Store in the EU following the new DMA law.

Fortnite fans can rejoice as Apple confirms the return of both the game and Epic Games Store in the EU

The news was confirmed by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, and here is a tweet made by Sweeney confirming how Apple has notified all involved parties.

I love how swiftly all of this took place because only two days ago, Apple terminated the Epic Games developer account, and at that time, it was certain that there was nothing that would make the company bend its rules. However, the DMA law does not see it that way, and honestly, at this point, it has started to look like a petty dispute between two big companies.

This victory might seem like a small thing, but honestly, the fact that a behemoth like Apple is being forced to do something that should have been done a long time ago is certainly a good thing. I believe that this goes way beyond the dispute between both companies as this landmark decision taken by the European Commission could serve as a bastion for fair policies in the future, as well.

One can only hope that such decisions become more common in the tech world so companies like Apple, Google, and other similar giants don't force other companies to comply with their rules or be completely forgotten in the industry. At the same time, I have to give major props to Epic Games for not backing down from this fight. The company fought long and hard, and honestly, I am pleased that things worked really well.

We don't know exactly when Fortnite will return or when we will see the Epic Games Store on Apple devices, but we will let you know whenever that happens.
