Guest shares why Apple might call its foldable iPhone the ‘iPhone Ultra’ because, compared to the regular-shared devices, such a smartphone is a major step-up

On the YouTube channel Geared Up, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was invited as a guest to provide his take on various topics, including the foldable iPhone. While readers can check out the entire episode below, we will remain focused on the iPhone Ultra and why Apple could decide to stick with this name. Gurman has previously talked about the ‘Ultra’ moniker, with his previous predictions dating back to 2022, when he suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could be called the iPhone 15 Ultra.

Looking at the launches that happened in 2023 and 2024, it is evident that Apple decided against this name change, but Gurman has guessed that the foldable iPhone’s name could be the iPhone Ultra. He believes that since there is no greater device in status than a foldable smartphone, it would be Apple’s ultimate achievement, prompting a name that would help viewers and buyers distinguish the regular-shaped iPhones when they turn their attention to the revamped flagship.

As for the launch, Gurman thinks that the foldable iPhone could arrive by the end of next year. A separate report stated that Apple was working to shortlist which suppliers to procure which components from, with an unveiling estimated for the second half of 2026. TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provided additional details about the iPhone Ultra, stating that the device will lack Face ID due to design complications and fetch a hefty sum of up to $2,500.
