Another Apple executive, Dan Riccio, is expected to retire from the company after a long career that saw the individual dedicate 26 years to the now trillion-dollar giant. In recent times, Riccio is best known for overseeing the development of the $3,499 Apple Vision Pro, and he reported to CEO Tim Cook as an engineering executive.
With Dan Riccio retiring, John Ternus will now take over Apple Vision Pro development as the company gears up to launch a more affordable model next year
The journey of Dan Riccio commenced in 1998, when he joined Apple as a product design director. After serving for four years, the retiring executive was promoted to Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering in August 2012. As reported by MacRumors, Riccio held this position for more than eight years before transitioning to a project in 2021 that was kept in the dark for many years, before finally materializing as the Apple Vision Pro.
Riccio’s departure could bring up speculation that Apple will now face difficulties with its future mixed-reality headset launches, along with the development of the company’s smart glasses. Fortunately, John Ternus will now succeed Riccio as the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, overseeing the development of Apple Vision Pro successors, which include an affordable model that is said to launch sometime in 2025.
Mike Rockwell, who was reporting to Riccio, will now be working under John Ternus and will manage the daily operations of the Apple Vision Pro, along with other advanced products. Even though Riccio can receive praise for helping push the Cupertino firm to launch its first mixed-reality headset, there were a few snags hit along the way. The Apple executive was one of the main figures of the self-driving car called ‘Project Titan,’ an endeavor that was ultimately scrapped because it was reportedly unviable from a financial perspective.
