You can't get much more ambitious than an 18-20-inch foldable device. And, it is precisely because of Apple's grand ambitions for such a technological marvel that the foldable iPad is now getting delayed.
Apple's Foldable iPad Now Expected In 2029 Or Beyond
Bloomberg is now indicating that Apple's plans for launching a giant foldable iPad might get pushed back to 2029 or beyond from its original release date of 2028.
Apple is supposedly contending with engineering issues related to the device's weight, as well as its 18-inch display panels, described by sources as a "giant foldable screen."
Nonetheless, Apple continues to work with Samsung Display to resolve the engineering issues inherent in building reliable foldable panels with a nearly invisible crease.
Once the device does launch, it is expected to cost as much as $3,900.
This comes as Apple's first foldable iPhone is also reportedly experiencing delays, marred by complexities around its hinge mechanism and foldable panels.
Mizuho analysts believe that Apple has scaled back its initial production cadence for the corresponding display panels to just 9 million units from a previous target of around 13 million units.
As per Apple's evolving product launch window, we are likely to see iPhone 18 Air, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max launch in the fall of the calendar year 2026, with the iPhone 18e and the foldable iPhone launching in the first quarter of the calendar year 2027.
