Apple has confirmed that it will retain the display size of its iMac range at 21.5 inches and has no plans to introduce a 27-inch version of the ‘All in One’ desktop featuring an M-series chip. This can also mean that the iMac Pro launch is now in jeopardy, but with a vast lineup available from the company, many consumers might not have been waiting for the updated workstation either.
Apple’s PR representative recommends customers consider picking up the 27-inch Studio Display paired with another Mac to compensate for the lack of a larger iMac release
Speaking to The Verge, the California-based giant stated that it has absolutely no plans to introduce a 27-inch version of the iMac, effectively slashing any hopes for anyone waiting to get their hands on the Apple Silicon version of the iMac Pro. Though the company formed plans to launch such a machine, as it was slated to arrive shortly after the M1 iMac, cost concerns prevented Apple’s hand. Fortunately, the firm’s PR representative provides alternatives to those waiting for such a product.
“Apple PR representative Starlayne Meza confirmed the company’s plans to The Verge. The company encourages those who have been holding out hope for a larger iMac to consider the Studio Display and Mac Studio or Mac Mini, which pair a 27-inch 5K screen with a separate computer, compared to the all-in-one design of the iMac.”
Even if Apple has no intentions to launch a 27-inch version of the iMac, there is a possibility it will unveil options for the same machine but with incredibly larger display sizes. According to a leaked product roadmap, the technology is planning to launch a 42-inch OLED iMac, but its arrival is said to happen after a few years, and that too in minimal quantities, signaling that it will cost a premium thanks to its extended screen real estate and panel technology upgrade.
Just because Apple does not plan on releasing a 27-inch model does not mean the company does not have a bigger vision for its ‘All in One’ family, but proof of that will be witnessed a few years from now, not at this stage. There also are rumors that Apple will launch a mini-LED version of the iMac in 2025, so let us keep our fingers crossed.
