Apple just announced watchOS 11 for its wearables today at WWDC 2024. Although it is available for developers to test right now, the public beta will follow next month. The latest version of the watchOS is meant to keep you active on your goals with upgrades to the health capabilities and a Vitals app coming to the smartwatch.
watchOS 11 is coming with salient health features, including a dedicated Vitals app for keeping track of your health metrics
A Training Mode feature is brought forth in the latest version of the software that helps measure the intensity of the workout, the duration, a comparison of the progress, and how the workout impacts your body over time. This feature might be well received by athletes, especially those who want to keep track of their efforts in the form of ratings. The insights will help find out if more effort needs to be put in or if you are working out at the same rate as intended.
The Activity Ring makes resuming the workout seamless. Pausing the ring option does not let you lose your streak, so you can continue from where you left off. You can even customize the activities according to different days, which will help you achieve your fitness goals optimally.
The new Vitals app is dedicated to monitoring vitals even at night and keeping a close eye on heart rate, wrist temperature, and sleep duration. When the health metrics tend to wander, the app will notify users and even give suggestions accordingly.
With the help of machine learning, Apple would bring live activities to the Apple Watch and give an added layer of security where you can have friends and family keep tabs on you if you go on a late-night run, for instance. With the smart stack capability, you can view relevant widgets according to your situation and requirement and get a preview of the needed information at the given time.
Among other key updates, the revamped Photos face for your watch will help you find the photo best suited to your preferences. Additionally, with the Ultra Wideband Home Keys, you can now automatically unlock your door as you approach it.
The watchOS 11 beta can be downloaded now for testing, but the full version will be coming out later this year alongside iOS 18. Even though earlier leaks suggested that watchOS 11 would no longer support Series 5, the later version was also dropped on top of that, taking many by surprise.
