AMDGPU Library Updated With “GFX1153”, Indicating RDNA 3.5 Architecture For Medusa Point

The updated codebase for AMDGPU Library reveals that AMD is working on bringing the RDNA 3.5 architecture to another processor family.

After the GPUOpen Drivers code, the AMDGPU Library has also revealed that AMD is likely going to utilize the RDNA 3.5 architecture for iGPUs on the Strix Point's successor. The RDNA 3.5 architecture is often denoted by the GFX115X designation, and we already have a couple of them for the Zen 5-based mobile processors.

Strix Point, Strix Halo, and Krackan Point all utilize the RDNA 3.5 architecture for their integrated graphics and, at the moment, we have only up to GFX1152 (for Krackan Point). However, the updated codebase of the AMDGPU Library on Freedesktop showed a new "GFX1153" iGPU, which indicates the RDNA 3.5 architecture is yet to be released on a future mobile APU family.

This could likely be none other than AMD's Medusa Point, based on the Zen 6 architecture. We have reported at least two such reports previously, confirming that AMD isn't going to utilize the RDNA 4 architecture for Medusa Point but will stick to RDNA 3.5. This is one of the latest confirmations that shows RDNA 4 is strictly for discrete GPUs.

While these leaks confirm RDNA 3.5 for Medusa Point, AMD has yet to announce it officially. Since Medusa Point doesn't have any official date of release as of now, AMD will take some time to announce more on this upcoming APU series.

Just two days ago, we also saw Medusa Point being revealed in an NBD shipping log, revealing that the SKUs will utilize the latest FP10 socket and might be bigger than the Strix Point chips. The Medusa Point APUs are expected to bring a chiplet design with 12 cores on a single CCD and a dedicated I/O die. The detailed specifications of Medusa Point are unknown at this point, and we will likely know about the specs in the second half of 2025 since the processor family is expected to release next year.
