AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU will support some impressive memory OC capabilities on the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E motherboard.
3D V-Cache With Up To DDR5-8800 Memory! AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU Tested On ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Motherboard
So one of our sources who has acquired an unreleased AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU tested it on ASUS's top-of-the-line ROG Crosshair X870E motherboard. The small overclocking demo shows that the next-gen 3D V-Cache chip will support some high-end memory overclocking speeds.
Coming to the details, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-cache CPU was tested with a pair of G.Skill Trident Z5 memory modules rated at DDR5-8000 (CL38-48-48-128 @ 1.45V out of the box). The kit is high-end but our source decided to leverage the memory overclocking capabilities of the Zen 5 CPUs and the new ROG Crosshair X870E motherboards.
For overclocking, the memory speeds were pushed to DDR5-8800 MT/s with a UCLK set to Memclk/2. The voltage was pushed to 1.54V to sustain the higher memory overclock & the timings were set to CL40 mode.
We can see that RunMemtestPro software is running, showcasing good health which confirms that AMD's next-gen 3D V-Cache CPUs will be ready to support such high-speed memory just like the existing Ryzen 9000 parts. The IMC hasn't changed between Zen 4 & Zen 5 however, motherboard vendors have worked hard with AMD to allow support for faster DIMMs.
ASUS also features its NitroPath technology on higher-end motherboards such as the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E HERO which offers an advanced memory signaling and routing layout, allowing for up to 400 MT/s speed gains.
With that said, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU is expected to offer some great gaming performance uplifts over the existing Ryzen 9000 and previous-gen Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs. It is expected to be introduced on the 25th of October with a retail launch planned for early November.
AMD is also hosting an event in Zhuhai, China on the 23-24 October where they will showcase the next-generation CPU. The higher-end Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU is also expected to launch in Q1 2025.
