AMD To Expand Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" CPU Lineup With 120W Refreshes: The Ryzen 7 9750X & The Ryzen 5 9650X

According to leaker chi11eddog, who has been accurate on various leaks, AMD is preparing two brand new Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" Desktop CPUs, which will act as refreshes to tackle the upcoming Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus CPUs. These include the Ryzen 7 9750X and the Ryzen 5 9650X.

AMD Ryzen 7 9750X 8-Core Desktop CPU

Starting with the specs, we first have the AMD Ryzen 7 9750X, which is an 8-core CPU with 16 threads, a base clock of 4.2 GHz, a boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz, 40 MB of cache (1 CCD with 32 MB L3 + 8 MB L2), and a TDP of 120W.

Compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X, the Ryzen 7 9750X will offer a +400 MHz speed up in base clocks, and a 100 MHz higher boost clock. The 120W TDP from the get-go is also nice, as you might remember that the Ryzen 7 9700X originally shipped with a 65W TDP but was upgraded to 105W later on.

9750X vs 9700X:

  • Same Core Count & Cache
  • Higher TDP (120W vs 65W)
  • +400 MHz Higher Base Clock
  • +100 MHz Higher Boost Clock

AMD Ryzen 5 9650X 6-Core Desktop CPU

The second chip is the AMD Ryzen 5 9650X, which features 6 cores and 12 threads. This chip will feature a base clock of 4.3 GHz, a maximum boost clock of up to 5.50 GHz, 38 MB cache, and the same 120W TDP. Compared to the Ryzen 5 9600X, the Ryzen 5 9650X features a +400 MHz speedup in base clocks & a +100 MHz speedup in boost clocks.

9650X vs 9600X:

  • Same Core Count & Cache
  • Higher TDP (120W vs 65W)
  • +400 MHz Higher Base Clock
  • +100 MHz Higher Boost Clock

As for prices, we can expect the new AMD Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPUs to be priced similar as the new MSRPs of the existing models, while the current parts get a price reduction. The 9700X currently goes around $299 US while the Ryzen 5 9600X is priced around $199.

These are the same prices at which Intel will be introducing its Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus CPUs with higher core counts, new optimizations, and faster app/game performance. So it looks like we will see a nice little battle between AMD & Intel refreshes in the coming weeks.
