AMD has announced that they are working on a new driver update for AMD graphics cards, the AMD Catalyst 15.5 Beta, in order to fix performance issues for both Project CARS and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
AMD is currently hard at work optimizing for both The Witcher 3 and Project Cars and will be bringing out a new Catalyst driver to boost performance in those titles. AMD also stated that it’sworking with the game developers to improve both visual quality and performance, so we might see some AMD specific technologies get implemented. AMD also announced a simple fix via the company's Catalyst Control Center control panel that significantly improves HairWorks performance on AMD GPUs.
AMD’s statement :
AMD is committed to improving performance for the recently-released Project CARS and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. To that end, we are creating AMD Catalyst™ 15.5 Beta to optimize performance for these titles, and we will continue to work closely with their developers to improve quality and performance. We will release AMD Catalyst™ 15.5 Beta on our website as soon as it is available.
Disappointed gamers have complained against both AMD and Nvidia, as well as against the developers of Project CARS and The Witcher 3, Slightly Mad Studios and CD Projekt RED. While many of the complaints are aimed at Nvidia's GameWorks technologies and how they tend to cripple machines with AMD GPUs.
NVIDIA released a statement on Reddit, stating, “The assumptions I'm seeing here are so inaccurate, I feel they merit a direct response from us.”
“I can definitively state that PhysX within Project Cars does not offload any computation to the GPU on any platform, including NVIDIA,” said senior director of GameWorks at NVIDIA Rev Lebaredian. “I'm not sure how the [original poster] came to the conclusion that it does, but this has never been claimed by the developer or us; nor is there any technical proof offered in this thread that shows this is the case.”
Lebaredian responding to players asking Nvidia to make PhysX open source, says that the source code for PhysX is available on GitHub, “so everyone is welcome to go inspect the code for themselves, and optimize or modify for their games any way they see fit."
AMD has provided a workaround on how to run HairWorks on AMD GPUs without crippling performance, which enables AMD GPU users to enjoy The Witcher 3 with the HairWorks setting enabled and actually getting better performance than GeForce users not using a Maxwell architecture Nvidia GPU.
