AMD Backtracks, Says It Will Continue Game Optimizations And Features Support For RDNA 1 And RDNA 2 GPUs

This isn't something we expected, but AMD is back with a new statement, claiming that it won't be ending the game/features support for the RX 5000 and RX 6000 GPUs.

AMD Rolls Back its Decision to End the New Features and Game Optimizations Support for RDNA 1/2; Also, Refutes The RX 7900 XTX USB-C PD Reports

AMD's exclusion of the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs from its latest game optimization and features support resulted in a backlash. It's obvious since anybody who owns these GPUs, particularly those who bought them in the last 2-3 years, wouldn't want to see being left in the dark too soon. AMD explicitly stated that it will only provide these GPUs the bug fixes and critical security updates, but it looks like it is now rolling back its decision.

AMD contacted Tom's Hardware and told them that they aren't really ending the game optimization and features support for these GPUs, and it totally contradicts their previous statement. They clearly excluded the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series in the Adrenalin Driver 25.10.2 release notes and confirmed only critical updates for these GPUs.

New features, bug fixes and game optimizations will continue to be delivered as required by market needs in the maintenance mode branch,

That said, AMD has likely reversed the decision, considering how big the backlash was on social media. The backtrack happened within a day, and thankfully, it's for good. Some GPUs from the RDNA 2 family came out in 2023, but even for GPUs that released in the 2019-2022 time frame, they shouldn't be dropped so soon.

As far as the RX 7900 XTX USB-C Power Delivery reports are concerned, this is yet another news that AMD refuted recently. It clarified to Techpowerup that the release notes of AMD Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2 included "misinformation" and the USB Type-C port on the GPU won't be disabled.

We'd like to inform you that the release notes for AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 25.10 2 posted today included misinformation that has since been corrected. There is no change to USB-C functionality on the RX 7900 series GPUs in the 25.10.2 driver. There was an incorrect line in the originally posted release notes that has been removed, and the release notes have been updated. We apologize for any inconvenience.

It's weird to see so many details being pushed without any prior verification, and it doesn't really seem "accidental". Hopefully, AMD sticks to its promise to deliver the new features and game optimizations on RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 GPUs for several years more.
