The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus remind us what a great time Aluminum's had for the lineup. The material's given us the spaceship look for the iPhone 6 and 7 lineup. The devices differ quite significantly from the premium iPhone X. For starters, the home button is still present on the front. There's no vertical dual camera either. The biggest difference, is the absence of Face ID. Apple's latest facial recognition feature was the centerpiece of its event today. And to good effect. The repercussions of facial recognition on the smartphone world will be significant to say the least.

The rumor mill prior to today's event has been controversial. We've seen leaks for the iPhone X since 2016's ending months. However, while those and the ones leading to September were well and good, these last couple of days haven't been. Apple's Golden Master code for iOS 11 was leaked to MacRumors and 9to5Mac. Without considering its impact on today's event, the pair started to sift through the code mercilessly. They ended up revealing a lot of details, including exact, step by step details on how to set up Face ID.

While we here at WCCF love leaks, things are a bit different for the smartphone world. Apple's events have always relied on the element of surprise, and leaks such as these kill the entire point for flagship launches. Nevertheless, bygones be bygones.
