TSMC was already reported to be enjoying an influx of A19 and A19 Pro orders thanks to increased iPhone 17 sales, and from the looks of it, the semiconductor giant will have to accommodate more production space for Apple because the latter continues to see a rise in demand for its devices. According to the latest statistics, around 4-5 million orders have been placed for the latest chipsets, though the higher number likely pertains to the A19 Pro, as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are the preferred models for the majority of consumers.
The months of October and November have witnessed blistering iPhone 17 sales, causing Apple to meet demand and place more A19 and A19 Pro chipsets with TSMC
A total of three chipsets from the A19 family exist, but Weibo’s ‘Mobile chip expert’ has not mentioned which one has been produced in the highest volume. However, he has published two posts on his account that mention the increased demand for Apple’s iPhone 17 models, which is why the company has likely requested TSMC to boost production. What is incredibly impressive about the Cupertino firm’s ability to keep up with the raging demand is that, in just the months of October and November, Apple has increased production by 4-5 million units.
It is likely that the binned version of the A19 Pro would be produced in the lowest volume since demand for the iPhone Air is pretty much non-existent at this time. This would leave the 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU variant of the A19 Pro, which would be fabricated in higher quantities since the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max command the lion’s share of the total shipment volume. However, don’t count out the base iPhone 17 from the lineup because Apple has finally given consumers plenty of reasons to divert their attention to the most affordable option.
The iPhone 17 ships with an LTPO OLED panel for the first time, and the fact that it sports an A19, 8GB RAM, a dual-rear camera configuration, sufficient battery, and a killer $799 price with double the internal storage makes it more than a solid option to upgrade this year. Apple is also reported to have secured more than half of TSMC’s initial 2nm capacity to starve the competition, and with the recent orders surge, it is likely that the iPhone maker will retain its position as the Taiwanese semiconductor behemoth’s largest customer for yet another year.
