Xiaomi HyperOS update could be developed with the help of Huawei and the BBK Group

A precarious situation currently exists between the U.S. and China, with Huawei being the unfortunate target of the trade sanctions. The limitations placed on the former smartphone giant mean that other Chinese firms such as Xiaomi are not immune to suffering the same fate, which is why it is imperative that these companies are well-prepared for any surprises. For now, the first order of business is a rumor doing the rounds that a HyperOS version is being developed that will be void of Google Play apps and services, similar to Huawei’s HarmonyOS, and to help with that transition, BBK is also said to be involved.

Huawei’s experience when it comes to dealing with adversity will come in handy for Xiaomi to develop its new HyperOS 3 update

A highly sketchy rumor originating from XiaomiTime talks about Xiaomi’s involvement with Huawei and the BBK Group, which is the parent company of OPPO, Vivo, and OnePlus, to develop a HyperOS 3 update that will be free of Google’s apps and services. For the time being, Xiaomi possesses a license to continue using the Mountain View giant’s smartphone operating system, but nobody knows when the Trump administration decides to have second thoughts on this partnership.

The U.S. government’s concerns surrounding Xiaomi may have been exacerbated when it was learned that the latter has successfully achieved tape-out of its custom 3nm chipset, and was on track to launch its first in-house solution called Xring later this month, though the intended timeline could be delayed. Sadly, the only market where Xiaomi will achieve the majority of its success if it abandons Android is China, unless it can deliver millions of users a custom app store that houses all the important alternatives, which is beyond challenging.

It is possible that Xiaomi is treating its HyperOS 3 as an ‘ace up its sleeve’ for when the Trump administration does enforce a trade ban on the company, which would also include being unable to use Google Play services or apps. Until such an event transpires, Xiaomi will probably not risk losing a vast number of customers and millions in revenue.
