Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Gaming, Mike Ybarra, has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on cross progression support.
Cross progression allows players to carry over all of their progress made in a game, including items, mission progression, unlocked characters, and more to another platform. Xbox Play Anywhere titles already support this feature, but the Microsoft executive wants to see this happen for all games.
“I really want cross progression on all games”, Ybarra tweeted. “I play on PC and Xbox so much, wish all games supported this”, thereby referring to games such as Rocket League, Overwatch and various other titles that are available on multiple platforms, but don’t support cross progression yet.
The Xbox Vice President added, “the people I play with do the same so we constantly debate to play new games together on PC or Xbox - just shouldn't need to be a discussion. Let's make it happen!”
Epic’s Fortnite already supports cross progression (and cross play) between PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but Sony is still actively blocking the feature. The feature(s) were announced by Epic back in March of this year.
"Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles", Epic wrote. "We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and ill bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms". A similair announcement was made for the PS4 and Switch versions of the game, although cross progression and play on PS4 is limited to PC and Mobile.
