Apple is expected to kick off its WWDC 2024 keynote on June 10, and while the majority of the announcements are focused on software previews, the company occasionally leaves a little room to unveil some hardware. Unfortunately, for those who wanted to witness a mix of announcements, a new report states that we will not be treated to those, as hardware launches may not happen at the event.
The previous WWDC keynote unveiled not only the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro but also Apple’s powerful M2 UItra chipset
In Mark Gurman’s latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, the Bloomberg reporter makes absolutely no mention of new hardware getting announced at WWDC 2024, hinting that we will not be surprised by Apple on this occasion. However, AppleInsider reports Gurman saying that if the technology giant unexpectedly previews a new device, then that will be another story.
“Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is set to kick off on Monday, June 10. That’s when the company will unveil iOS 18 and the next major versions of its iPad, Apple Watch, Vision Pro and Mac software. The new iPhone operating system is considered internally to be the biggest upgrade in the device’s history, and the Vision Pro is getting its first significant software update since the headset was released. Apple used WWDC 2023 to unveil the Vision Pro, but the stakes are even higher this year. The 2024 event is expected to showcase its renewed AI strategy.”
The newsletter also stated that a new Apple TV would arrive in the first half of 2024, and would feature a chipset upgrade in the form of the A15 Bionic, which is a couple of years old at this time but still highly capable. Last year, things were extremely different, as during WWDC 2023, Apple not only unveiled the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro, but also its most powerful silicon at the time, the M2 Ultra.
Given that the Cupertino firm just unveiled the 11-inch and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro models and a few months ago officially launched the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, which fuel the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, previewing new hardware was likely out of the question.
Also, with the Apple Vision Pro officially here, the company has one more software preview to show to its audience, which only means that it needs to allocate additional workforce and resources to these areas and less manpower on the hardware side. Hopefully, WWDC 2024 will have a few software surprises of its own, and we will provide all the necessary updates during the keynote, so stay tuned.
