If it had been the other way around, I would still have been happy, but not everyone is that lucky.

Redditor Receives Free Ryzen 5 8400F in the AMD Stock Cooler Box That Costs Nearly $150

A Redditor just had incredible luck by ordering an AMD stock cooler, which turned out to be bundled with a processor, "accidentally". The user u/Beneficial_Island809 says that he ordered the stock cooler online (didn't mention the platform) and when he opened the box, he found a processor in it.

While details of the cooler edition weren't disclosed, what mattered the most is the free AMD Ryzen 5 8400F chip that was coupled with it inside the box. Ryzen 5 8400F is an entry-level Zen 4-based processor, featuring 6 cores and 12 threads. Even though it's an entry-level chip, it's still capable of delivering a decent gaming experience when paired with a budget or mid-range GPU.

The user says he doesn't know if this processor works or not, but as per the IHS annotations, the processor looks legit. We have seen how some forged Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 7800X3D enter the market, but are easy to spot through matching with the IHS annotations and the location of SMD components on real ones. However, Ryzen 5 8400F sample doesn't look like a fake one.

The CPU doesn't look damaged, except that there are some stains near the IHS. The pin side looks totally okay as well. Whether the chip is a genuine Ryzen 5 8400F can only be confirmed once the user obtains an AM5 motherboard. For now, he appears to be on an AM4 platform, which prevents him from verifying its authenticity. Nonetheless, we’re curious to know which seller or retailer made this mistake, although it’s unlikely they will repeat it again

At the moment, the AMD Ryzen 5 8400F sells for around $150 on various online retailers. Despite having an "8000" naming convention, it doesn't belong to the Ryzen 9000 series. Ryzen 8400F doesn't feature integrated graphics, which means a discrete GPU is required to get a display.
