Twitch Will Begin Selling PC Games This Spring, Launch Partners Revealed

Unexpectedly, Twitch just announced with a blog post that it will begin selling PC games later this Spring. According to Robin Fontaine, Product Marketing Manager of Ecommerce at Twitch, this is a natural step as people are used to checking games before buying them on Twitch. After the new service is launched, they'll be able to buy it without leaving the site,

Upon watching a stream, you'll see an option to purchase if that game is available on Twitch. Those who are interested in supporting their favorite streamers will be happy to know that streamers who opt into the program will get a 5% cut. Publishers and developers will get 70%, like on Steam for example, and the rest will go to Twitch.

Purchases will be available worldwide via an Amazon account and at launch, all pricing will be in US dollars although support for more currencies will be available at a later time.

Also, all purchases over $4.99 will yield a Twitch Crate with a chance for random digital loot like a game-specific emote, a chat badge, or some Bits. Pre-ordering won't be available at the beginning, but it will be added sometime in the future.

This is the current list of launch partners, though Twitch promised to speak more about this topic in the coming weeks.

Ubisoft, Telltale Games, Digital Extremes, Hi Rez Studios, Double Fine Games, Fred Wood, 11Bit, Jackbox Games, tinyBuild, Raw Fury, Devolver Digital, Gambitious, Trion Worlds, Blue Mammoth Games, iNK Stories, Versus Evil, Proletariat, Paradox Interactive, Vlambeer and Campo Santo
