This is not the first time that Tim Cook has defended the price of the iPhone but it looks like the CEO of Apple might have gone a little too far when he claimed that the iPhone X’s $999 price tag is considered a ‘Value Price’.
Cook Believes That for the Technology Present in the iPhone X, the $999 Price Is Considered a ‘Value Price’
In an interview coming from a segment in Good Morning America, Tim Cook answers a question pertaining to the level of affordability of the iPhone X for the average American. Cook responds by stating the following:
“Well, it’s a value price, actually, for the technology you’re getting. As it turns out most people are now paying for phones over long periods of time. And so very few people will pay the price tag of the phone initially. Also most people actually trade in their current phone, and so that reduces the price further, and some carriers even throw in subsidies and discounts.
And so when we look at it, the phone — the iPhone in particular — has become to essential in our daily lives, people want it to do more and more and more, and so we built more and more technology in to be able to do that.”
While it is true that carriers have their own specialized deals designed to cater well to the customer as well as contribute to their own growth, you cannot help but wonder why apart from Sprint, there is no other carrier that has provided a ‘$0 iPhone 8’ deal so far.
Also, Tim Cook earlier said that Apple’s products, which includes the iPhone are not meant for rich people, but they change the world instead. He also notes that if the company’s products were meant for the rich, they would not be sold in the millions, and with that, I strongly agree.
However, saying that the $999 iPhone X price is a ‘Value Price’ is something I completely disagree with and what is even more alarming is that depending on the exchange rate of other countries and other costs paired, you could be paying a very hefty sum for the phone.
