One of the biggest Mac launches transpired this month, with Apple bringing in its most affordable notebook for the masses, the MacBook Neo, starting from $599, followed by the company’s powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets, which are mass produced on TSMC’s latest and greatest 3nm architecture and power the latest refreshed lineup of 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
Also, did we forget to mention the new 13-inch and 15-inch M5 MacBook Air series? because these have also been included. In short, it is safe to say that Apple has had a terrific week with these announcements, with the technology giant’s CEO, Tim Cook, expressing his excitement over this milestone.
The new $599 low-cost offering, coupled with the insane performance from the M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets are sure to garner immense attention
While the M5 Pro and M5 Max sport the new ‘Fusion Architecture,’ which is just a fancy word for Apple adopting a new chiplet design, the SoCs featured in the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro family are incredibly expensive, starting from $2,149.99 on Amazon. Looking at the price disparity between these machines and the MacBook Neo, it should be unsurprising to claim that the latter will accumulate the bulk of the attention.
For years now, Apple hasn’t disclosed the number of Mac sales per quarter, and just like on previous occasions, Tim Cook hasn’t revealed any figures for either the MacBook Neo, the M5 MacBook Air, or the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro family. Fortunately, the Cupertino hasn’t made any quality compromises on its most affordable portable Mac, with Apple sticking with a unibody aluminum chassis while equipping the MacBook Neo with the A18 Pro and 8GB RAM.
No other competitor on the market has employed a unibody metal shell on their $599 notebook, with Microsoft’s former Windows chief, Steven Sinofsky, commenting that he is completely blown away by this machine. Also, if you thought that Apple is taking a breather with its Mac launches, think again, because the company is reported to be prepping for its OLED M6 MacBook Pro launch later this year.
It will be the first time that the California-based giant will ditch mini-LED for a superior technology, not to mention introducing touchscreen capabilities and a newer design. If you’re interested in the MacBook Neo, you’ll be happy to learn that Amazon has incorporated a minor discount to the 512GB SSD version, as it is listed for $689.99.
