The most controversial topic in the video game industry now and for the last few years has been Generative AI and its place (or lack thereof) in video game development. The most recent hot-button layer to that has been NVIDIA's introduction of DLSS 5. While the tech likely won't be impacting games coming later this year, projects further off than that, like Fragmentary Order, the new extraction shooter from Nikita Buyanov, the creator of Escape From Tarkov, are likely going to be able to implement the tech if they choose to.

As for Buyanov and his new team at Rant Gaming Studios, who are making Fragmentary Order, when asked as to whether they'll use NVIDIA's new tech in a new interview with GamesBeat, Buyanov said that they would "bring it in" if it was ready.

"I think so, yes. If it's available, we'll bring it in," Buyanov said. "The AI thing - if we'll be able to control it, we will try it. I'm more interested in other types of additions through DLSS, not only this total overhaul of the picture. We need to see what it will be like. They've only just put this technology out in public view. It still needs many additional changes."

It's a reply worth noting because it could likely represent the feelings of many developers. NVIDIA's DLSS technology has been adopted across the industry, and while some can still only see its downsides, there are a lot of positives players enjoy because of DLSS. Of course, the jury is still out as to whether DLSS 5 will be counted in the category of positives, but the GenAI elements of it that continue to cause controversy will likely not be the most intriguing ones for players.

There will likely still be those who only see the mistakes, but whether you want to see the tech used or not, if major upcoming titles, like a new game from one of the most prolific game creators in this era of the video game industry, adopt it, then that will do more for DLSS 5 adoption across the industry than anything else.

Elsewhere in the interview, Buyanov seemingly took a shot at ARC Raiders, which could also simply be interpreted as calling the game what it is. When asked if the emergent gameplay that has made ARC Raiders so popular is something Buyanov and his team will look to bring to Fragmentary Order, Buyanov was clear that this game, like Tarkov before it, will be nothing like ARC Raiders.

"It's an extraction shooter for casual people. It's not an option for us," Buyanov said. "We want to have the most painful, most challenging, and most rewarding experience."
