Swiss Watchmaker Makes Fun Of Apple Watch With A $25,000 Mechanical Clone
We’re not yet sure how Apple’s lawyers will poach to it, but it seems that a Swiss watchmaker has addressed the Apple Watch in a mechanical way. By the name of H. Moser & Cie, the Swiss watchmaker has made a luxury watch that looks virtually identical to the Apple Watch. The form factor and design language adopted by the Swiss watchmaker is pretty much similar to Apple’s smartwatch.
Swiss Watchmaker’s Alp Watch Is An Apple Watch Twin
The Luxury watchmaker, H. Moser & Cie has named their timepiece, the Alp Watch. Judging by the name, it seems that the watchmaker has targeted the Apple Watch directly. It’s not just the name, external form factor of a rectangular chassis, band, crown and even its size resembles Apple’s wearable. The size is measured to be 38mm, which is the same as one of the two Apple Watch variants. However, the crown is positioned in the middle of the frame.
On the company’s website, the Alp Watch is described as a completely mechanical watch which is “inspired by the modern design of smartwatches, [although it] is entirely mechanical.” The description continues to read as:
“The Swiss Alp Watch does not allow you to make calls, or send messages to share the latest gossip; it does not give you the option to send beautiful sketches you have created on a two-inch screen or to share your heart rate.
It does much more than that: it lets you reconnect to what matters in life. It takes you back to sharing emotions with your nearest and dearest without a filter, interface or embellishment. Most importantly, it is something you can pass on to your children one day without having to upgrade it!”
The Swiss Alp Watch is definitely not a joke and the watch blog Hodinkee says that it is available for purchase. The company is making 50 pieces of the Alp Watch and you can even buy it. The Alp Watch has a transparent back panel that allows you to see the mechanical action. Since it is a 50-piece limited edition luxury watch, you can buy it for a hefty price of $24,900. It is fascinating to note that how the Apple Watch adopted design elements from traditional Swiss watches and now the Swiss watches are starting to look a lot like the Apple Watch. However, the Alp Watch looks really attractive and offers no other feature than telling the time.
