Microsoft demoed Baldur's Gate 3 running at 30FPS on the Snapdragon X Elite

The Snapdragon X Elite now powers an entire phalanx of laptops, including Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop family. Qualcomm wants developers to begin porting tons of apps to the latest platform, so just like Apple, it has introduced a Snapdragon Dev Kit to make this possible.

Fortunately, developers will not have to invest too much effort in gaming titles because Microsoft recently demonstrated that the insanely popular role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 can run on the Snapdragon X Elite at 30FPS. For those who do not remember, we previously reported that the game ran on the exact chipset at the 1080p resolution but with the graphics set to low.

Microsoft also revealed that the Snapdragon X Elite can run Borderlands 3 smoothly with the company’s ‘Auto SR’ Super Resolution enabled

We are not surprised to see Baldur’s Gate 3 running at 30FPS on a Snapdragon X Elite because, based on our own testing, the game can run fluidly, even on low-end hardware. Regardless, it is a massive win for the Windows on ARM platform because our very own Francesco De Meo reviewed the title and said that the game exceeded his expectations. With that being said, those who will gravitate to a Snapdragon X Elite-powered notebook can also immerse themselves in the same experience.

Additionally, Microsoft also showcased that Borderlands 3 was running on the Surface Pro at 30FPS with ‘Auto SR’ Super Resolution enabled. Unfortunately, it is unclear if the same upscaling technology was used to allow Baldur’s Gate 3 to hit that 30FPS mark, but in our earlier report, there was no mention of this setting. For a chipset that sports an integrated Adreno GPU, the Snapdragon X Elite has so far impressed us with its gaming capabilities.

We have also mentioned a previous rumor, claiming that Baldur’s Gate 3 will arrive for the iPad Pro range in 2025, so it should be an interesting comparison between the Apple Silicon lineup and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite. For now, the chipset running on Windows laptops is clearly in the lead, and it is compatible with hundreds of gaming titles.
