Qualcomm may not have had the opportunity to take advantage of TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process to mass produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but looking at the rumored performance differences, it may have been unnecessary. One tweet states that the upcoming SoC will be up to 30 percent faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but that does not mean that all the tests conducted will show the same difference.

TSMC’s N4P process will reportedly allow the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to gain a notable performance lead over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 without compromising power efficiency. These performance differences were shared by Twitter user Revegnus, who states that the new GPU, which is expected to be the Adreno 750, will be 30 percent faster in OpenCL tests compared to the graphics processor running in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

However, that was likely the only highlight of the performance differences because the percentage gap closes significantly. In the same tweet, it is stated that the multi-core performance is 20 percent higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and though the benchmark program was not mentioned, it is likely that Revegnus is referring to Geekbench 6.

Sadly, those performance differences are diminished in single-core results, where the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is rumored to be just 10 percent faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This implies that Qualcomm may not focus on increasing the clock speed of the Cortex-X4 to give it a noteworthy advantage over the Cortex-X4, but the presence of more Cortex-A720 cores will tip the scales in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s favor.

To remind you, Qualcomm was rumored to be testing two versions of its upcoming flagship chipset that it is scheduled to unveil on October 24, and to maintain exceptional efficiency of the silicon, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s CPU cluster could be ‘1 + 5 + 2,’ where that single core is the Cortex-X4.
