Snapchat No Longer Lets Jailbreakers Downgrade Its App

Yesterday, we learned that Snapchat is locking out users who have Snapchat-related tweaks running on their iPhone or iPad. These tweaks most likely remove or add more features into the app. Reddit users and many online blogs were able to find a temporary fix to this issue. Anyone who wants to continue using Phantom or similar tweaks along with Snapchat without getting caught can downgrade to an older version of Snapchat.

When noticed, instead of banning these accounts, Snapchat has decided to go toward a different direction, which we think is easier and more effective. The company now forced jailbreak users to upgrade their Snapchat app to the latest version to use it. You may be familiar with this kind of method from other applications on the App Store where the iOS developers who don't agree with the fact that you use jailbreak tweaks to modify their applications require you to get their newly released updates, which fix the problem.

If you are one of the many who downgraded Snapchat to version 9.10, your account will be signed out automatically and you'll receive this message.

You're using a version of Snapchat or operating system that's no longer supported. Please upgrade your device's operating system and update to the newest app version to use Snapchat. Thanks!

There is no way you can bypass this message until you download the latest version of Snapchat from the App Store. I've found many reports on different sites showing that you might have a chance of never logging back into your account. In other words, your account is now banned from Snapchat if you tried too many different ways to use Snapchat jailbreak tweaks.

In order to avoid this, you will have to follow Snapchat's rules, for now. CokePokes, the genius developer behind Phantom is working with another iOS developer to find a fix for this. The current progress is going extremely well, in fact, I think they have it already.

Here are some important tweets from CokePokes and Phillip Tennen:

I honestly can't believe it was that simple cc\

After 70hrs of developing nonstop without sleep, I can say that I'll be pushing an update in an hour or so to avoid banning.

Be sure to follow Wccftech on Twitter and Facebook to get the latest update. We'll let you guys know as soon as the new update for Phantom comes out.
