SanDisk Announces World’s First SDXC Card With More Storage Than Your Average Notebook

If 512GB of storage wasn’t sufficient enough, then SanDisk has just the storage card for you, and it packs more gigabytes than your average notebook out there.

SanDisk Announces Its 1TB SDXC Storage Card – The First Ever in Existence

Dinesh Bahal, Vice President at Content Solutions Business Unit of Western Digital stated the following regarding the latest announcement:

“Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us. Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.”

Normally, SDXC storage cards are the first to come with a plethora amount of storage, after which MicroSD cards will follow the same suit. The world’s first 1TB storage will definitely be used to store a myriad amount of 4K videos, and with 8K slowly being adopted, you’ll definitely need the storage freedom at your fingertips. Additionally, the announcement of the 1TB SDXC storage cards will provide the necessary momentum to expedite the release of large capacity and affordable MicroSD cards, which are later going to be incorporated in action cameras and drones.

Sam Nicholson, CEO of Stargate Studios and member of the American Society of Cinematographers also pointed out how far the company has come in elevating the storage market.

“Just a few short years ago the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic – it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality. With the growing demand for applications like VR, we can certainly use 1TB when we’re out shooting continuous high-quality video. High-capacity cards allow us to capture more without interruption, streamlining our workflow, and eliminating the worry that we may miss a moment because we have to stop to swap out cards.”

Pricing details of the world’s first 1TB SDXC card have not been mentioned by SanDisk, but we’ll update you on more details when they are released.
