Technology is rapidly taking over almost every sector, helping streamline processes and making everyday tasks more efficient and less time-consuming. We are all aware of how law enforcement officers handle cumbersome situations on a daily basis, and enabling them to leverage the latest advancements to revamp operations can be quite useful. After a successful pilot program with two officers, Samsung now promotes Galaxy Z Flip as a body camera for police operations.
The Galaxy Z Flip series helped police officers with their work by being used as a body-worn camera to promote transparency
Samsung's Z Flip devices are known for their compact form factor and sleek, lightweight design. While the device is popular among users and has gained quite a reputation in the tech community, the company is now promoting the Flip series as a useful tool for police officers to use in their operations.
The idea of the Flip lineup being used as a body cam by police officers was generated from a pilot program conducted two years ago by the Kimberling City Police and the Indian Point Police in Missouri. Where they began testing the Galaxy Z Flip to see how it could assist with day-to-day operations and promote more efficiency. The officers used the series as a body-camera-worn camera for the first time to better maintain transparency. The program was a success, and because of its great utility, it was also expanded to other departments.
According to Samsung's blog post, the Galaxy Z Flip series is a custom-built device for officers to use as a body cam. Visual Labs helped the company make the device more suitable for attachment to police uniforms. The device had a volume button remapped to make it easier for police officers to start recording in case of emergencies. The camera is also activated when a high-speed incident occurs, making it easier for the officers to capture moments that require immediate recording.
Samsung further claimed that the Z Flip series was deemed suitable for officers in such dire situations due to its high-quality camera, which captures scenes with greater clarity, and its extended battery life, which allows it to record extensive videos. The Kimberly City Police Department Chief of Police, Todd Lemoine, shared the experience of using the Z Flip phone during their investigation efforts:
We chose the Galaxy Z Flip due to the wide array of benefits it brings to our team, and we’re delighted to say that we’ve had incredible results. We’ve seen response and investigation efforts be significantly improved by its overall ease of use and ability to enhance communications across teams. These devices put powerful resources right at the fingertips of our force.
Through its Z Flip series, Samsung is proving to be truly versatile, especially given its multi-purpose usage and its potential to assist other industries in finding optimal solutions to their operations.
