This year, Samsung made a big move by pivoting to the smart ring category and launching its first product for the segment, the Galaxy Ring, at the Unpacked event on July 10th. The new smart ring has been creating quite the buzz even before its launch, but with the wearable finally unveiled, users and tech enthusiasts have been inquisitive about the company's take on the product as well as the advanced health capabilities coming to it. The hype of the smart ring can be sensed in the changing production plans of the company.
Samsung is adding 600,000 units to its Galaxy Ring production amidst the unexpected product reception before its global launch
Samsung's Galaxy Ring has been making the waves ever since the company announced its plan to launch its first smart ring. The tech community has been sharing the noticeable similarities it shares with the Oura Ring, igniting the competition in the wearable segment. The South Korean tech giant did not want complications with its product launch and pursued legal ruling over its smart ring, not violating any infringement or patents of its competition.
In March, Samsung announced its high hopes for its new wearable by announcing mass production of almost half a million units, but a new report reveals that the company is moving to more unit production amidst the great reception of its smart ring before it is officially launched globally. A report by TheElec revealed Samsung's plan to increase production by adding 600,000 more units to the initial 400,000 units calculated.
The increase in production can be attributed to the initial market response seen in the pre-sales of the Galaxy Ring before the official launch tomorrow. The report stated that industry sources shared the company's 1 million production forecast with several part suppliers. While parts for the initial 400,000 batch have already been secured, the company has initiated orders for an additional 600,000 to be produced.
Galaxy Ring's pre-sales in Korea were good, leaving the company with high anticipation regarding the demand for Samsung's first-of-its-kind product. It is now gearing up to handle the predicted higher sales. Given how the Oura Ring in 2022 was able to secure sales of one million units and transform the wearable segment, Samsung expects to hit the one million unit mark with its Galaxy Ring, which could change the dynamics of the wearable space and heat up the competition.
The Galaxy Ring is launching officially on July 24th, and we will have a better idea about how well-received the new smart ring is after its official release. For now, Samsung's increased production plans have us hooked on the possibility of a great product response.
