It was inevitable that, at some point within its pre-launch cadence, Samsung's Galaxy S26 series would be compared with Apple's iPhone 17 lineup in terms of physical dimensions if not on disparate features. Well, that comparison is now at hand, courtesy of the tipster Ice Universe.
Samsung Galaxy S26 series tipped to hold a noticeable advantage over the Apple iPhone 17 lineup in terms of physical attributes and dimensions
As we noted earlier this week, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series is expected to sport the following dimensions:
- The base Galaxy S26 gets a 6.3-inch screen with frame dimensions of 149.4mm x 71.5mm x 6.9mm.
- The Galaxy S26+ gets a 6.7-inch screen with frame dimensions of 158.4mm x 75.8mm x 7.3mm.
- The Galaxy S26 Ultra gets a 6.9-inch screen with frame dimensions of 163.6mm x 78.1mm x 7.9mm.
For comparison, here are the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series:
- The base S25 sports a 6.2-inch screen with overall dimensions of 146.9mm x 70.5mm x 7.2mm.
- The S25+ sports a 6.7-inch screen with overall dimensions of 158.4mm x 75.8mm x 7.3mm.
- The S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch screen with overall dimensions of 162.8mm x 77.6mm x 8.2 mm.
Now, however, the tipster Ice Universe has just outlined the expected weight and the thickness of Samsung's next flagship smartphone lineup, going a step further by comparing the Galaxy S26 series' physical attributes with those of the Apple iPhone 17 variants.
Here are the three most important conclusions from this comparison:
- The base Galaxy S26 is tipped to be 13 grams lighter and 1.05mm thinner than the base iPhone 17.
- The Galaxy S26+ is expected to be 13 grams lighter and 1.45mm thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro.
- The Galaxy S26 Ultra is to be 17 grams lighter and 0.85mm thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Even though the entire iPhone 17 lineup has an aluminum frame - barring the iPhone Air, which is only comparable with the now-defunct Galaxy S26 Edge - only the base S26 and the S26+ are expected to feature an aluminum frame, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a titanium one, which aligns with Samsung's design ethos for the S25 series, and bestows a distinct advantage to the apex S26 model over its iPhone 17 rival.
Moreover, do note that the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a quad camera setup vs. the triple-lens setup on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Galaxy S26 Ultra puts its lighter frame to good use by incorporating four sensors while maintaining an overall weight advantage over the iPhone 17 Pro Max. These sensors include:
- A single 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main camera
- A 50MP ISOCELL JN3 or Sony IMX564 ultrawide camera
- A 50MP IMX854 5x periscope camera
- A 10MP or 12MP ISOCELL 3LD S5K3LD 3x telephoto
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is also expected to feature a 1.2x larger vapor chamber than its predecessor. The fact that the variant is still able to maintain a weight advantage over the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max is a testament to Samsung's engineering prowess.
