As you might have heard on innumerable occasions, what happens on the internet stays on the internet, but the tech giant Samsung apparently believes deleting videos is the way to go if it wants to erase public memory. If you are confused, allow us to explain. With the company having successfully launched Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus yesterday, these are the chaebol’s first flagships to do away with a headphone jack, which is ironic, considering how the South Korean manufacturer used to poke fun at Apple for doing the same.
Samsung, like many other companies, often try to market its products by showing how they are better than those made by competitors. For instance, an ad titled ‘Growing Up’ shows how an Apple fan stayed loyal to the brand year after year, despite shortcomings such as no waterproofing and lack of a stylus, until the 3.5mm to Lightning dongle becomes a deal-breaker as the company parts ways with the headphone jack. As a result, the disgruntled user switches to the Galaxy Note 8. The company also mocked the iPhones while marketing the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 for the same reason.
Now, it’s time Samsung has a taste of its medicine. All the marketing material that mocked Apple for the missing headphone jack has now been pulled because the company has also stopped using the beloved audio port on its latest and greatest flagship range, though a company representative has tried to explain this decision. The ‘Growing Up’ ad has now been removed from the Samsung Mobile USA YouTube channel that has 1.8 million subscribers as well as the company’s main channel which sports 3.8 million subscribers. It’s still available on some regional channels but we believe it was also be removed from there.
According to a Samsung representative, the removal of the socket has allowed the company to slightly increase the size of the battery and improve haptic feedback. The Note 10 series ships with USB-C headphones, but for those looking to use their older accessories, a USB-C to headphone adapter will have to be purchased separately.
