$119The popular gaming accessories maker, Genki, has a surprising accessory for PC gamers, which adds a lot of convenience to the desk. The company made a charging hub called Moonbase, which aims to serve as a hub for powering and charging multiple devices at the same time. While the concept isn't new at all, the Moonbase is probably a unique and one of the most premium superchargers for PC setups.
While it appears to be excellent for enthusiast PC setups, it can also be used in multiple instances, such as console and productivity setups, as well as in offices.
Upon opening the box, you find this heavy powerhouse that not only brings premium components inside but also feels and looks premium. The main cord is well-braided and measures 1.5m in length. The Moonbase supercharger is heavy, and it weighs nearly 1 kg (850g exactly).

Specifications and Safety Certifications

The Moonbase is a 7-in-1 desktop charging hub/power strip, offering three AC outlets and four USB Type-C power delivery ports with a GaN charger built in. It's meant to do both jobs, powering your PC and charging devices simultaneously. Moonbase comes with eight advanced protection security measures, including surge protection, overcurrent protection, temperature control, and various measures to keep your PC and devices safe from multiple hazards. The eight protection layers bring features like OVP, OCP, SCP, TCP, MFP, Surge, Safety Door, and grounding protection, which are excellent for total device protection.

That said, for its built-in charger, Genki says it has been working with GaN (Gallium Nitride) power electronics for roughly six years, which has helped it build smaller and more efficient chargers that also run cooler than the traditional silicon-based ones. Technically, what it means is that with GaN expertise, Genki was able to deploy such a highly efficient charger inside the moonbase without turning it into a heater.
AC Outlets and USB Ports With Wide Compatibility

There are Safety Door Shutters, which are essentially small internal flaps located in the AC sockets that only open when the plug's prongs are inserted together. This further adds a safety layer, particularly when kids are around. In the image above, you can see that this is an EU-style connector, but Genki has released several variants, including US (Type B, three prong ), UK, and Asia-Pacific region that offer wide compatibility for users around the world.

For mobile device charging, there are four USB Type-C ports present on the side, offering a total wattage capacity of 240W. However, individually, you may get 100W or more if you use the first two ports. The USB C1 is capable of delivering 140W, while the USB C2 can deliver 100W. Even if you connect two devices in both ports simultaneously, your devices will still receive full wattage.
The third and fourth USB C ports are capable of delivering up to 30W each, and if you decide to populate all four ports, you will receive 100W + 100W + 20W + 20W across the ports. Genki has listed various configurations for these ports, which show how much wattage you can expect from each port depending on the connection configurations. Essentially, these ports have you covered to quickly charge your mobile phones, laptops, and handhelds, and are perfect for your gaming setup or office, where multiple users can connect their devices to Moonbase without requiring multiple chargers.
Nonetheless, it's not going to replace your 500W multi-port charger, which often comes without any AC outlets. I tried searching for similar superchargers but couldn't find anything that comes close. Yeah, surely there are such multi-plug chargers, but most are limited to fewer AC outlets or mostly USB Type A ports, or are often capped at <100W of total power delivery through USB ports.
Beautiful Lighting and RGB Goodness

A plus point for the built-in LED lighting for the outlets, which offers multiple color modes and are quite bright. Moonbase already comes in two color options: light and dark, but they both bring the same lighting effects, which offer eight different colors to choose from and three different lighting modes.

To customize the lighting modes, a dedicated touch feature is provided on the other side, making customization easy. Of course, you can also choose to turn off the lighting, but it looks gorgeous with it, particularly with the Teal color.
Here you can see the Moonbase illuminated in various colors. The lighting modes include a breathing mode and one that cycles through different colors.
Convenient but Expensive

Overall, Genki Moonbase looks like a good addition to the desk. It makes powering devices more convenient and versatile, but it's not exactly a bargain. There isn't much to talk about here, but you get the point. This is a premium supercharger that comes with a premium price tag of $119. Genki is offering various bundles to offer discounts, such as bundling them with charging cables, turbochargers, and even game controllers. All in all, I pretty much liked it, and now it will stay on my desk permanently. It's not a dealbreaker, but it just completes your setup.
