Renowned CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem has commented on the publisher's admission that they are too focused on new Resident Evil entries and remakes of older titles to contemplate any kind of spin-offs.
According to the leaker, CAPCOM is addressing this gap in their pipeline by producing longer-form story DLCs for Resident Evil games, including Requiem (which launched earlier this year) and Veronica (due sometime next year). However, Dusk Golem also warned fans that these DLCs, being quite big, will take time to materialize.
CAPCOM's temporary solution to there being no spin-offs in the works is that they've, in the last few months, decided to focus on several major, hour-long DLC story expansions for Resident Evil Requiem & Veronica, and possibly future RE titles to fit into the current pipeline.
But I will clarify that these DLCs are coming out way after the games, and this is a recent development and choice. Resident Evil Requiem's story DLC is eyeing a late 2027 release date at present, Veronica's will probably be somewhere in 2028, over a year after the game came out too.
Admittedly, we already saw some of this with the most recent Resident Evil DLC. Shadows of Rose, released in 2022 for Village, could last up to three and a half hours, but Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways set a new benchmark with five to six hours for the main story and up to ten hours for a completionist run.
That shift makes sense for CAPCOM: if the studio isn’t ready to spin off into side stories, then bigger DLC episodes let it keep Resident Evil moving without derailing the mainline strategy. It also gives fans something more substantial than a costume pack or a short bonus chapter, while still keeping the release cadence tied to the core games. In other words, CAPCOM may not be making spin-offs right now, but it’s clearly trying to fill that gap with premium expansions that can stand on their own. The only catch is patience, since these projects look like they'll arrive long after the base games.
