Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has been rumored to be more expensive than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was already a tough pill to swallow for several manufacturers as the chipset was estimated to be priced at $160. Typically, pricey smartphone components would mean that prices would have to be raised, but surprisingly, the REDMAGIC 9 Pro takes a completely different approach; offering high-end specifications, a massive battery, an upgraded display, and so much more for just $749.

The boxy, rectangular design could hint that the REDMAGIC 9 Pro took a page out of the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s book, but even from a distance, this smartphone’s exterior screams that gamer DNA. The display is massive, measuring 6.8 inches diagonally and resonating a 2480 x 1116 resolution, with the AMOLED panel supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and 960Hz touch sample rate, making the gaming flagship as responsive as the most premium Android handset out there.

For $749, you get impressive internals, starting with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, along with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a massive 6,500mAh battery that can be topped up with an 80W charging brick. All of these components are cooled using what REDMAGIC calls an ‘Upgraded ICE 13 Cooling System,’ which is essentially a bigger vapor chamber sporting a larger surface area to prevent temperatures from climbing to unacceptable levels.

You might not notice it, but there is also a tiny but rapid-fast 22,000RPM fan located beneath the primary rear camera array. The majority of gaming smartphones have decent sensor specifications, at least on paper, so if you are not too bothered about the REDMAGIC 9 Pro being unable to keep up with other high-end smartphones in producing above-average image and video quality, then this model will be catered to your needs.

There is also no word on how long ZTE, the company behind the REDMAGIC 9 Pro, will support this handset in terms of software and security updates, but looking at the lower price tag, we believe it will just be for a couple of years. If you want the decked-out version of the REDMAGIC 9 Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, the available finishes on Amazon are Silver and Transparent, with both variants retailing for $899.
