With the release of the RE4 Remake inching ever closer, the author of the REFramework mod, praydog, has been hard at work to make it compatible with the new game.

Six degrees of freedom (6DOF) third-person VR is already available for both the Chainsaw demo and the upcoming full game, which will be music for the ears of any PC VR fan as CAPCOM only announced PS VR2 compatibility coming in the future with a free DLC.

That's just the tip of the iceberg of what's possible on PC with the REFramework, though. You can also tweak the Field of View (FOV) slider of RE4 Remake, for instance.

Additionally, it is already possible to inject PureDark's upscaler mod in the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo. While AMD FSR 2.1 is integrated into the game by default, NVIDIA and Intel users can use it to add DLSS and XeSS support, respectively.

Reddit user JoHien compared all the upscalers and found that DLSS easily came out on top, both in visuals and performance. Visually, the difference is particularly noticeable in Leon's hair; DLSS also runs 12 frames faster, at least on a GeForce RTX card (the 2080Ti).

Of course, if you have the spare performance, DLAA is actually the best option when it comes to image quality.

To use the mod, download the corresponding RE4 Remake .rar file from REFramework's GitHub (you may need to log in first), extract the dinput8.dll, download PureDark's upscaler plugin and also grab the necessary .dll files for DLSS/DLAA/XeSS (they're all linked in the description of the upscaler mod), depending on what you're going to use.

After you've downloaded all these files, extract them in the folder containing the RE4 Remake .exe. Of course, the .dll files you've downloaded from NVIDIA and Intel will need to go into the UpscalerBasePlugin folder. When you launch the game next, the REFramework should include the new upscaling options.

Last but not least, praydog is working on a proper first-person view mode for RE4 Remake. Just a few hours ago, the modder uploaded some new promising test footage on YouTube; you can check it out below. Needless to say, this will also open up possibilities for a true first-person VR mode.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X on March 24th. Come back tomorrow on Wccftech to read our full review of the game.
