Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy rumored to be available in two variants

The official Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specification slides revealed that its single Cortex-X4 core had a maximum clock speed of 3.30GHz. However, Qualcomm is working with a Samsung-exclusive ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen for Galaxy’ where the SoC is clocked slightly higher than the default configuration. However, according to the latest rumor, two versions are being tested, and your luck in getting the faster variant depends entirely on where you live.

Depending on where you reside, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy’ with a higher clock speed

Not all regions will be treated to the same Galaxy S24 Ultra, and before you contemplate, Samsung’s top-tier flagship will only launch with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as no Exynos 2400 is planned currently or for the future. However, despite sporting the ‘for Galaxy’ branding, @TheGalox_alt mentions on X that there are two versions of the ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.’ The first one’s Cortex-X4 is running at a 3.30GHz clock speed, which does not make it any different from the regular version since its Cortex-X4 is operating at the same frequency.

However, the overclocked version has its Cortex-X4 running at 3.40GHz, marking a minute improvement. These two ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy’ versions will be sold in three markets; B, N, and U. For those who find these designations confusing, let us add more information. ‘U’ means the U.S. market, while ‘N’ is Samsung’s home turf, Korea; the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra shipped to these two markets will have a 3.30GHz Cortex-X4.

As for market ‘B,’ the exact regions were not specified, so the Galaxy S24 Ultra running a slightly overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would likely be shipped to the rest of the world. Surprisingly, the two major markets that would be considered paramount for Samsung are expected to get a slower Galaxy S24 Ultra, but to be fair, a 100MHz difference is hardly the end of the world, and you will not witness real-world contrast.

Also, depending on how capable the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s vapor chamber is, the higher-clocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy could immediately throttle due to uncontrollable temperatures, taking away whatever advantage in the first place. If you ask us, Samsung is making this launch terribly convoluted, particularly from a supply chain perspective. The ideal decision would be to streamline the entire lineup and treat all Galaxy S24 Ultra models with the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, but then again, it is not our decision.
