Pornhub, the famous website dedicated to porn, released several insights regarding the year 2016. For the purpose of this article, we'll focus strictly on the topics covered on Wccftech, beginning with gaming.
Nowadays most consoles allow gamers to browse the Web and according to Pornhub, console traffic mostly came from PlayStation (53%, up from 46% in 2015). Xbox is in second place with 34%, but its share dropped by 10% compared to last year.
Nintendo's Wii and 3DS only have 7% and 5%, respectively, while the PS Vita is stuck at 1% and sees the biggest drop from 2015 (-38%). The image below doesn't really make distinctions between PlayStation 3/4, Nintendo Wii/U and Xbox 360/One, but it's fair to assume those couples have been merged together.
Two games released in 2016 also had a huge impact on Pornhub search. These are Overwatch (you might recall that Blizzard tried to take Overwatch porn with DMCA notices earlier this year) and Pokémon Go.
The growth of Overwatch related searches peaked at +447% on May 29th, a few days after the game's release, while Pokémon Go searches peaked on July 13th - the day the game officially released in Europe.
However, the undisputed sex symbol of gaming remains Lara Croft. Overwatch's Tracer came close with an impressive +475% increase; there are other characters from both Overwatch and Pokémon among the top searched game characters, such as D.Va, Misty, Mercy, Widowmaker, Ash, Pikachu, and Sombra.
Interestingly, Virtual Reality is gaining a lot of traction on Pornhub with 38 million searches since the category was opened in April 2016. As you know if you're a regular reader, we also cover movies - particularly sci-fi and superhero ones.
The fictional character of Harley Quinn, played in Suicide Squad by gorgeous Australian actress Margot Robbie, completely dominated movie searches with a double peak on the movie's release in August (+310%) and on Halloween, when presumably lots of folks used her costume. The Top 10 also includes Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Deadpool, Superman, Joker, Ghostbusters, Rey (from Star Wars) and Spider-Man.
