Blizzard has revealed a new Overwatch game, and no, it's not 'Overwatch 2' again. It's a new 4v4, free-to-play, top-down Hero shooter called Overwatch Rush, and it's a brand new game built for mobile players.

The game was announced with a look at some early in-development gameplay, which you can see in the trailer below. It's being developed by a "dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, all of whom have deep mobile experience," according to a blog post on Blizzard's official website, which is followed by Blizzard reiterating that Team 4 is "fully focused on Overwatch," as if to assure players who don't care about mobile projects like Overwatch Rush that the core team isn't trying to split its time between Overwatch and Overwatch Rush.

"Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players," the post reads. "While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development. Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms. We'll continue to keep you updated on how things are progressing."

Based on the gameplay shown, it seems like this game is a new way for people to experience the world of Overwatch and its characters, since, at least for now, it doesn't feature new, Overwatch Rush-exclusive characters. Maybe that will come as the game continues to grow and develop, but for now, it just seems like a zoomed-out, MOBA version of the shooter.

This game was probably not how players expected the Blizzard team to continue expanding the world of its popular hero shooter following the Overwatch Spotlight earlier this month, but it's frankly more surprising that it's taken this long for a spin-off mobile game like this to appear.

Currently, the shooter is enjoying an upsurge of players since its latest update arrived at the top of this month, which led it to reach a new peak concurrent player count on Steam.
