The Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake's code features something quite interesting, which may have revealed new details on the yet-to-be-revealed Nintendo Switch 2.
As reported on X/Twitter by RibShark, the game has a 4K performance profile that is obviously not used on the current system. While this could be a development leftover to, for example, capture screenshots at 4K resolution, other discoveries seem to suggest this performance profile could be used in another version of the game. Meatball132 not only confirmed its presence but also added how the game's codename of GogoS suggests how there could be another version of the game, as the final S in the codename is usually used to distinguish the Switch version from another, which would be pointless if the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake will remain a current Switch-only title.
While a game like the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake would likely have no trouble running at 4K resolution on the Nintendo Switch 2, it won't be common for the vast majority of Switch 2 titles to run at such high resolution. NVIDIA DLSS would definitely be capable of making it happen, but only at 30 FPS, and it would be a "misuse" of the upscaler that would limit developers considerably.
