It seems that OnePlus wants to make the most of its deal with T-Mobile by making OnePlus 6T a device that would be hard to resist. The latest development has confirmed that the phone will come with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, a feature that has only been seen on select Vivo devices and the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design so far.

OnePlus 6T Was Earlier Leaked to Feature a Waterdrop Notch, Similar to the OPPO R17 Series

The company has substantiated the rumours itself that alleged that the successor to OnePlus 6 will have an in-display fingerprint scanner. Dubbed the Screen Unlock by OnePlus, the feature will help the company trip bezels and eliminate the extra steps associated with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Chinese company first intended to implement the fingerprint-on-display, or FOD, feature into the OnePlus 5T but decided against it as the technology hadn’t been fine-tuned to deliver a fast and seamless user experience at that time.

The fingerprint reader is embedded under the display and works by using the optical image sensor and an AI processor to read the fingerprint. To accommodate the feature, the company had to make some changes to the innards of the phone, making it nearly 0.45mm thicker. This could probably be a reason why Apple is not comfortable with placing this sensor in its future iPhone models.

In-screen fingerprints have become faster and are much more convenient than the traditional fingerprint scanners, which is why nearly 100 million phones will have this technology by 2019. Companies such as Vivo, Huawei, and now OnePlus can get a head start by being one of the first OEMs to introduce the technology.

The OnePlus 6T is rumoured to have a waterdrop notch and a triple-camera system on the back. According to previous reports, this premium handset is expected to feature a $550 price and it will reportedly be revealed in October, which is going to be just in time for the holiday shopping season.
