Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is now officially available in South Korea.

Nubia's first foldable device, aptly dubbed the Nubia Fold, is already turning heads and putting competitors to shame, chiefly the new Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, which boasts of a much larger display-based real estate.

Nubia was able to cram a 6,560mAh battery within the Nubia Fold's 35.7 sq. inch frame vs. the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold's 5,600mAh battery within a horizontal real estate of 52.8 sq. inch

Before going further, let's go over the key specs of this new foldable:

The device has just gone on sale in Japan for JPY 178,560 (~$1,145).

For comparison, here are the key specs of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold:

  1. Dimensions of 159.2mm x 214.1mm x 3.9-4.2 mm when unfolded, with the device's thickness increasing to 12.9mm when folded.
  2. A 10-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED inner screen with a 2,160 x 1,584 resolution and 1,600 nits of peak brightness, as well as a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED technology with a 2,520 x 1,080 resolution and 2,600 nits of peak brightness.
  3. Both displays offer a variable refresh rate that varies between 1 and 120Hz.
  4. A 16GB RAM and the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold features the following camera setup:

  1. A 200MP main camera
  2. A 12MP ultrawide lens
  3. A 10MP telephoto lens
  4. A 10MP selfie camera on the inner as well as the outer display

The triple-folding device from Samsung is expected to go on sale in South Korea for about $2,447 on December 12.

Notice that the Nubia Fold has a horizontal real estate of around 35.7 sq. inches. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a horizontal real estate of around 52.8 sq. inches. Granted, the Galaxy Z TriFold is a tad slimmer than the Nubia Fold in its unfolded state.

Nonetheless, that 1.2mm to 1.5mm difference in thickness (the overall thickness of the 3 panels on the TriFold varies) does not entirely justify a nearly ~1,000mAh difference in battery capacities between the two phones.

Apple's rolling disaster that is the iPhone Air and Samsung's termination of the S26 Edge have definitively proven that consumers would always opt for a bigger battery in lieu of the device's thickness. Yet, it seems Samsung has yet to grasp this pivotal message.
