Nintendo Ships 7.63 Million Switch Units up to September 30th
7.63 million Nintendo Switch units have been shipped up to September 30th, Nintendo has announced.
Nintendo announced the shipment numbers in its latest earnings call, and updated sales numbers on its website. Based on the numbers presented, around 2.92 million Switch consoles were shipped in the last quarter.
In addition, Nintendo has increased its annual Switch sales forecast from 10 million units to 14 million sold between sold between April 2017 and March 2018. Interestingly, Nintendo managed to ship close to 1 million units more this quarter than its previous one.
The Switch was released back in March of this year, and has been selling amazingly well ever since. Various retailers have reported that the platform has been selling out within mere hours.
Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch, previously codenamed the Nintendo NX, back in October of last year. “Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”
Back in January of this year, the company revealed its launch date and price. “Nintendo Switch is a brand-new kind of home gaming system that offers a wide variety of play modes,” said Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. “We will introduce the world to new experiences made possible by the unique characteristics of the Nintendo Switch hardware and the Joy-Con.”
