MSI Silently Launches the MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO, Featuring 64 MB BIOS, Incredible Memory Support, and Dedicated XPANDER Card

Last month, we reported on two of MSI's best 800-series motherboards, specifically designed for enthusiasts and overclockers. While the ATX form-factor model called MAG X870E Tomahawk MAX PZ is due for launch, MSI has quietly launched the compact one called MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI. The motherboard offers some competitive overclocking features, as well as support for AMD's "next-gen" processors, which we will talk about soon.

The MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO offers a robust VRM, consisting of 8+2+1 SPS 110A power phases, offering excellent overclocking capabilities for the CPU and DRAM. There are 2x DIMMs, featuring support of up to a staggering 10,000 MT/s, ensuring users can reach new heights in performance, but keep in mind that MSI only promises it with a 1DPC 1R configuration. With a 1DPC 2R config, the max speed is expected to be around 8000 MT/s, but with some tweaks, we are sure enthusiasts can easily break that mark as well.

We recently saw ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC pushing to 10,600 MT/s using a 2x 24 GB DDR5 memory configuration, and MSI's new board should be able to compete with that. For the GPU, there is a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, and there is a dedicated FP card slot as well, near the DIMMs. Since the board comes with a 5-in-1 XPANDER card, users can have additional storage slots like M.2 and SATA ports for adding more storage devices. However, natively, the motherboard gets 3x M.2 slots and 2x SATA ports.

Coming to the interesting part, the motherboard features a 64 MB BIOS, and we know from previous reports that motherboard makers are preparing newer models with a bigger BIOS chip to support AMD's Zen 6 processors. Nonetheless, some reports also claim that the 32 MB BIOS-equipped motherboards will also support Zen 6 without losing support for the Zen 4 series.

Connectivity is also excellent, and we have the latest WiFi 7 adapter, Bluetooth 5.4, and a fast 5G LAN port. There are plenty of USB ports as well, including 10 Gbps Type A as well as a USB4 port for fast transfer, and you also get the EZ Debug LEDs for troubleshooting. MSI hasn't announced MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI's availability or pricing yet, and we have yet to see MSI launch the MAG X870E Tomahawk MAX PZ.
