MSI's New EOTF Boost Makes OLED Monitors Smarter by Adjusting the Brightness for Clearer Visuals; Will be Released for Older Models as Well

If you aren't getting that optimal brightness on OLED panels even in the HDR mode, then the new EOTF Boost from MSI might be the best answer. While it's MSI's proprietary technique for improving brightness levels on its OLED panels, we may see such features from other brands in the near future. As of now, MSI is the first to deliver a clever HDR feature that can enhance brightness on its OLED monitors by carefully analyzing the images.

The EOTF Boost for MSI OLED panels aims to deliver higher brightness compared to regular HDR modes such as HDR True Black 400 and HDR1000.

Compared to HDR1000 mode, EOTF Boost delivers higher brightness. Under the same APL (Average Picture Level) conditions, using EOTF Boost results in higher brightness compared to HDR1000. For users who previously desired higher brightness when using HDR1000 mode, you can now switch to EOTF Boost Mode to experience a brighter display.

Monitors Unboxed has reviewed the EOTF Boost and has found noticeable changes in the visual quality, whether you are watching a video, working on a program, or playing games. EOTF Boost seems to be smarter at understanding different brightness levels in a scene and can optimize each area for better visual clarity. As per the reviewer, EOTF is a much superior feature than HDR1000 but with further polishing can become better.

As per MSI, the EOTF Boost mode is currently available on select OLED monitors, such as the latest offerings like MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 and the upcoming MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50, where users can turn on the feature out of the box. Thankfully, the support for older OLED monitors will be included in the near future, and as per MSI, we should see the EOTF Boost mode rolling out with the new firmware set for release in August.
