Yesterday, Activision and Sledgehammer Games revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 registered some new engagement records in the new MW trilogy despite its lukewarm reception.

The game has seen more hours per player than the previous two installments. The Zombies mode developed by Treyarch is the most engaged 'third mode' in Modern Warfare history, and even campaign players are putting in more hours than they did in the predecessors. To celebrate the news, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players can look forward to a 'triple-feed holiday weekend' featuring double XP, double weapon XP, and double Battle Pass XP.

Speaking to the Xbox Wire blog, Sledgehammer Games Design Director Zach Hodson said:

We’re incredibly inspired from the reactions so far. The positivity makes the effort worth it, and we use the negatives as motivation to get solid fixes and improvements out as fast as we can. Keep the feedback coming!

Hodson also noted that further improvements to the spawn system featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are on the way.

We heard from players that the spawns lacked directionality and it was making it impossible to know which direction the fights would be coming from. In between Beta and Launch, our QA, Analysts, Designers, and Engineers worked together on all aspects of spawns to improve on the issues players were seeing. We think the work really paid off, but there are still more improvements coming.

According to a datamined leak, it sounds like The Walking Dead's Rick and Michonne will be introduced as in-game operators as part of an upcoming collaboration to mark the arrival of the new TV series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Since the TV show is set to air on February 25, 2024, they should land in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 around that time.

Meanwhile, a new patch was released yesterday. Its highlights are some map visibility improvements for Derail and Estate as well as balance adjustments to the DG-58, FR 5.56, and several SMGs.
