Mark Zuckerberg criticizes Apple

Mark Zuckerberg has found himself in the middle of a controversy amidst the changes it brought ahead in Facebook's fact-checking system. It previously relied on professional fact-checkers but now has transitioned to a more community-driven approach, stirring a debate over the accuracy and reliability of the information. Zuckerberg's pivoting in this direction is said to be driven by the need to support political interests and benefit President-elect Donald Trump. To clear the air, the company's CEO recently appeared on a popular podcast, and while talking about the recent move, he did not shy away from bashing Apple and its lack of innovation.

Mark Zuckerberg attacked Apple again and labeled the company's recent efforts as subpar and lacking innovation

Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has not hesitated to share his views on Apple products, strategies, or policies over the years, and some even say he has been sour against them for a while. This conflict first came up in 2022, when Apple's App Store policies prevented Meta from collecting user data and affecting the platform's target audience for ads. Since then, Zuckerberg has bashed the company's policies and criticized its business strategy.

The obsession with Apple seems not to have died down, as recently, Mark Zuckerberg was part of the Joe Rogan podcast and talked about his decision to opt for information that is now being handled by the public and the backlash it got for it. While he justified and shared his confidence in his approach, he also expressed his view of Apple doing nothing great or significant in recent years and attacked it for its lack of motivation. As per Zuckerberg's statement:

They haven’t really invented anything great in a while. It’s like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone and now they’re just kind of sitting on it 20 years later. And they actually, I think year over year, I’m not even sure they’re selling more iPhones at this point. I think like the sales might actually be declining.

Mark Zuckerberg is not the only one with this opinion, as many others have been critical of Apple's growing focus on incremental improvements rather than groundbreaking ones. As a result of the slow-paced innovation, Zuckerberg further suggested that users stick to their devices longer, and the Cupertino-based tech giant's sales are declining as a result. The explanation he had for a growth in revenue despite flat sales was that Apple, through 30 percent commission for its in-app purchases and its accessories, can keep the revenue running.

Given how Apple has recently lost the title of the most valuable company in the world to NVIDIA, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg blasting the company and calling it out must hit a nerve. It could be an attempt to divert the attention away from the criticism it has been getting lately for its move to a community-driven model.
