Overclockers UK, a major UK retailer, has disclosed that it sold over 5,000 units of AMD's RX 9070 series GPUs on the first day of launch, and demand is pouring in.
AIBs Are Working Quickly To Restore Inventory Levels For AMD's RX 9070 GPUs ; Overclockers UK Claims That Demand Is "Too High"
The demand for AMD's initial batch of RDNA 4 GPUs is pretty high, and retailers like MicroCenter have seen "lines of people" waiting to get their hands on the RX 9070 series. However, Overclockers UK (OcUK) has disclosed the sales figures for the first day of the retail launch, and they surely look surprising, especially when you consider how NVIDIA's RTX 50 series performed on its first day. At the OcUK forums, a staff member disclosed that they had sold 5,000 units of the RX 9070 series on the first launch day, with more SKU availability incoming.
These are certainly impressive numbers, considering that OcUK is a regional retailer. Seeing this much demand from them clearly shows that AMD's RX 9070 series has disrupted the mainstream GPU markets. Moreover, it is also claimed that the retailer has additional inventory incoming from AIB partners like Sapphire and Powercolor, which means that many of the early buyers will get their units, and hopefully at MSRP as well.
There's also a bonus mentioned by OcUK staff in the thread, claiming that if users purchase the listed GPUs with a payment mode other than PayPal, then they can register their purchase much faster than other consumers, given that PayPal "takes a lot longer for the funds to get released." So, for those looking to register their orders as soon as possible, the staff advises changing the payment mode, although this case is specific to a retailer and won't apply in all cases. OcUK is apparently selling 100s of GPUs in seconds; hence, the demand is massive right now.
This situation is just for OcUK; hence, you can only imagine the order situation at retailers like MicroCenter, which has a much higher inventory level and is in a relatively more mainstream market. AMD really did nail the RDNA 4 release, and this is indeed being reflected in how consumers are reacting to the release and the sales figures being reported after the first launch day.
