AMD Is Rumoredly Prioritizing 8 GB GPUs While Its Board Partners Are Expected To Implement Another Price Hike

Just like NVIDIA, AMD is expected to prioritize 8 GB Radeon GPUs, including SKUs from the previous generation.

AMD to Focus More on 8 GB GPUs, Including RX 9060 XT and RX 7650 GRE, While AICs Plan to Carry Out a Second Price Hike Soon

AMD GPUs are about to get more expensive as its board partners are planning to implement a second price hike very soon. We reported on this yesterday that AMD's board partners have already implemented a price hike of nearly 5-10% in January, and are expected to hike the prices a second time this month or in the next. This will further result in higher RX 9000 GPU prices in the market, making it even harder for gamers to have affordable GPUs.

As revealed on Board Channels, AMD's board partners are going to increase the GPU prices to match the competitors from NVIDIA. If that happens, we will see the GPUs like RX 9060 XT and RX 9070/XT reaching insanely high prices. The current state of the market is already ridiculous, with GPUs such as GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB reaching almost $700. The Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB is available for much lower on retailers like Amazon ($400-$500), but considering AMD's new rumored strategy, the 16 GB budget GPU could soon catch up to the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB prices.

All thanks to the high DRAM prices, it has apparently become difficult for AMD and NVIDIA to deliver GPUs at MSRP or near MSRP. With DRAM prices quadrupling, both manufacturers are reportedly prioritizing 8 GB GPUs. While we have previously heard about such reports for NVIDIA's RTX 50 series GPUs, AMD is rumored to be following the same path. The report suggests that AMD will now prioritize selling more 8 GB GPUs, and that doesn't just include the current RDNA 4 series, but even older generation cards as well.

It's expected that AMD will focus on the Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB card as well as the previous-gen RDNA 3-based Radeon RX 7650 GRE GPU, which was initially launched as a China-exclusive. The GPU sits at a sub-$400 price tag on various retailers such as Amazon and Newegg, but considering the RX 9060 XT 8 GB is going to get more expensive this month or the next, we may see it sitting near $400 too.
