Maybe if he was persistent, Apple employees would have offered a replacement

The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro was added to Apple’s lineup just a few weeks ago, and Reddit user ‘noss616’ became an early adopter of what he claims to be the top-end configuration. Unfortunately, after just three weeks, the owner claims that the machine was emitting creaking sounds every time the lid was opened or closed. The same noise can he heard from the palm rest and when the chassis is flexed slightly. Given Apple’s legendary customer service, the M5 MacBook Pro owner was expected to receive a replacement, but to his surprise, he was denied a second unit, forcing him to rant on the social media platform.

Despite having AppleCare+, the M5 MacBook Pro owner was denied rightful service

The interesting part about this incident is that the M5 MacBook Pro owner was paying for a monthly AppleCare+ subscription. In his quest to find a replacement, he visited two Apple retail outlets, where employees said they could not hear anything, although the owner claimed it was due to the loud background noise.

To be fair, the creaking sounds in the video posted on Reddit are extremely faint, and we needed to increase the volume of our headphones to even notice them. Regardless, if you’re splurging top-notch money for these products, these imperfections shouldn’t show up and on the off chance that they do, you have a right to ask for a replacement, especially if you’re paying a monthly AppleCare+ fee.

Returning to the owner’s encounter with Apple’s employees, when they took the defective unit inside to examine it, they returned and stated that nothing was wrong with it. According to the M5 MacBook Pro owner, one employee even gaslighted him and said that it’s ‘metal on metal body’ and is considered normal. The individual also gave a reason below for not replacing the unit.

“We’re not going to replace it because we don’t want to create a precedent. If we swap it and the new one has the same noise, it just becomes an endless cycle of exchanges.”

It is disappointing that after spending $2,000 on a computer, the M5 MacBook Pro owner was still denied any service. However, if he continues to remain persistent with Apple and exhaust every channel to ensure that his complaint his heard, he will eventually be issued a replacement. For instance, a 2019 Intel-powered MacBook Pro owner was denied a battery replacement.

Fortunately, his tenacity rewarded him because, after escalating the problem, Apple gave him a brand new M5 MacBook Pro for no extra charge. Perhaps if the same mindset is adopted, noss616 from Reddit will experience the same treatment. Then again, a creaking sound that can barely be heard unless you really put your ear to the noise source isn’t exactly a pressing issue, but we would like to hear your thoughts in the comments.
