The updated versions of Apple’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro lineup sporting the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max were previously estimated to launch in the fourth quarter, implying that their mass production would have to start a little earlier. Well, one report believes that the technology giant’s supply chain is already up to the task as those manufacturers are prepping to commence mass production of both machines this month.
Assuming mass production successfully commences this month, Apple would have sufficient breathing room for an October event to announce the M4 MacBook Pro family
A paywalled report from DigiTimes that was spotted by MacRumors talks about the potential mass production timeline of the M4 MacBook Pro models. There are still a couple of days until August ends, so based on the Taiwanese publication’s prediction, Apple’s supply chain could commence the assembly process soon. We are assuming that it will take these companies less time to successfully package one unit, as none of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to feature a redesigned chassis.
In addition to the portable Macs, Apple is planning to announce more hardware in the fourth quarter, such as a new Mac mini that will supposedly sport a compact form factor. Alongside the M4, which debuted in the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, Apple is preparing more powerful versions of its improved 3nm chipset, the M4 Pro and M4 Max, and if everything proceeds smoothly, we might see an unveiling as early as October.
Even if the lack of an aesthetics change diminishes your excitement of witnessing the new MacBook Pro launch, what should really get your juices flowing is how the M4 Pro and M4 Max will perform. After all, the top-tier version of the M4 with a 10-core CPU ran circles around the M2 and M3 and maintained a solid lead against the M3 Pro and Snapdragon X Elite. As for the less powerful variant with the 9-core configuration, it was barely slower and remained unrivaled with a record-breaking single-core score in Geekbench 6.
These results alone should mean that the M4 Pro and M4 Max will mean business and thanks to the M4 MacBook Pro’s robust cooling solution, we should witness sustained performance from these chipsets when various workloads are run.
