Apple Intelligence runs like magic on the M2 iPad Pro

Apple Intelligence might be late to the generative AI party, but a small video shows its unrivaled capabilities when running on an older-generation M2 iPad Pro. Able to proofread and re-write almost 15,000 characters without the need to access the cloud, the feature reveals that Apple might be behind its competitors regarding the launch, but that could be because it wants to make Apple Intelligence the superior solution.

Previous-generation M2 iPad Pro can sift through more than 2,000 words with ease, whereas Galaxy AI is limited to just 500 characters

Bear in mind that Apple Intelligence is not yet available for the vast majority of users, but it will be when the company officially releases iOS 18.1 later this year. Those who are experiencing an earlier version of Apple Intelligence likely have access to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, And macOS Sequoia Beta updates, but even then, its proofreading and re-writing abilities are impressive, especially when running completely on-device. AppleLeaker recently posted a video on X that is under two minutes, showing the M2 iPad Pro breezing past a total of 14,760 characters that talk about OLED technology.

That is the equivalent of 2,203 words, with the user able to highlight the entire text and open up various options thanks to a ‘drop down’ menu courtesy of Apple Intelligence. At the bottom of the display, users can select the ‘Professional’ tone when choosing to re-write it, and we are confident that there will be other tones accessible down the road. In mere seconds, Apple Intelligence re-writes the 2,000+ word article while also proofreading it for mistakes. Samsung might have launched Galaxy AI much earlier than its competitor, but the feature is limited to 500 characters, making it almost 30 times less capable.

Of course, Apple Intelligence is far from perfect, as one individual in the thread points out that the source numbers on the M2 iPad Pro were removed. We also cannot tell from here how well generative AI has actually rewritten or proofread a large amount of text. Fortunately, these features will continue to improve with time as Apple continues to collect valuable data through feedback, and by the time a global rollout happens, we should witness a more refined version.
